America’s last moment of true unity was in the immediate aftermath of 9.11.
It didn’t last long.
On 9.11 we received a deep, unimaginable blow.
We all did. All at the same time.
For a short while what followed was beautiful. We couldn’t help but see the humanity in each other. We were kind to each other in ways we hadn’t been before the attack.
The Trauma we shared changed how we saw ourselves and everyone around us.
It didn’t last long.
All together in the two and a half decades since 9.11 we intentionally and unintentionally brought out the worst in each other.
We became a different people.
Our new tech made it easy.
And here we are 25 years later… still at war in The Middle East only instead of chasing a relative handful of Al Qaeda terrorists from cave to cave in Afghanistan we are at war with a formidable Terrorist nation state.
YES. There are people to blame.
Yes. Terrible mistakes and betrayals were made.
BUT… The Blame Game is a big part of the reason we are in this mess we are in so let’s agree to stop.
We need to stop because we are destroying America from the inside out.
Osama bin Laden is winning.
We must NOT allow Osama bin Laden to win.
The Trauma of 9.11 came in a single day and instinctively we knew kindness and compassion were what was called for.
25 years later and we are all traumatized in unimaginable ways… big and small… and all we want to do is fight.

When we have elections, we will no longer default to the lesser of two evils. We will choose leaders best equipped to advance our BHAG.
When we consider another war, we will ask whether it serves our BHAG or wastes the resources and lives that could be used to build real peace and shared prosperity.
When political divisions threaten to tear us apart, we will measure them against our BHAG and recognize that many are just distractions from the larger work we must do.
When we confront America’s affordability crisis, we will understand that the only sustainable path to lower American costs… is broader opportunity and greater peace and stability in America and around the world.
Through the success of our BHAG.
Our BHAG does not require us to be perfect. It requires us to be purposeful.
It does not promise easy answers.
It demands that we rise above small thinking and all this short-term nonsense.
